Members and some leaders of the All Progressives Congress APC in Ondo State have announced their decision to move to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The deflectors who are from the 208 wards and in the 18 local government areas of the state said they were ready to work for the candidate of the PDP, Agboola Ajayi, so that he could win the November 16 governorship election.
The defectors were received by the PDP candidate and the state leadership of the PDP at the Akure town hall, Akure, the state capital on Wednesday.
Welcoming them into the party, the party’s gubernatorial candidate said there is a lot of suffering, hunger and anger in the land following the administration of the APC-led government in the state.
“A large number of the failed All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Auga and Ikakumo, Akoko, Ondo State, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The defectors, comprising party leaders and loyalists, cited their desire to support a leader who truly cares about the welfare of the people as the reason for their defection.
“They expressed confidence in our Governorship Candidate in Ondo State, H.E. Agboola Ajayi’s ability to transform the State and improve the lives of its citizens.
“This mass defection is a clear indication of the growing popularity of H.E. Agboola Ajayi and the PDP in Ondo State. It demonstrates the people’s rejection of the APC’s failed policies and their desire for a better future,” he said.
Agboola Ajayi, who is a former deputy governor of the state, said if voted into power in November, he would provide the people of the state with a better alternative and reposition the state for the better. He encouraged the new members to join hands with other members and work for the PDP to win the forthcoming election.
He said, “We are working very hard to regain the state and we need to be strategic about it in order to emerge victorious in the November 2024 election because the people of the state are looking up to us.
