All Progressives Congress, APC members under the name of People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), in Ondo State, have jumped ships with them leaving to join the Social Democratic Party, SDP, ahead of the gubernatorial election in November.
This is not new or strange as politicians have a track record of jumping from one party to the other especially when they sense certain policies or strategies being employed won’t favour them in any way.
This incidence occurred at the rally held at the party’s secretariat in Akure where the members joined after dropping their APC membership cards and collecting those of the SDP.
The former members complained bitterly that they were not being treated fairly hence their departure from the party.
Femi Ikoyi the director general of the Bamidele Akingboye campaign organization said they were a strong force in Ondo APC known as the People’s Democratic Movement, PDM.
He said more APC and PDP members have indicated interest to join SDP, to ensure victory for its candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye.
He said and I quote “I’m bringing my PDM people in APC to PDP. We know the SDP candidate is the favourite of Abuja.
“We aim to win the election. What APC is doing to us at the local level is not encouraging. This is why we are moving to SDP. I am here to deliver Akingboye,”.
The Chairman of Ondo SDP, Gbenga Akinbunmi was elated that they were receiving new members and promised that they will all receive equal fair treatment in the party
He said: “Today marks the end of the current governor, Aiyedatiwa’s tenure in the Alagbaka Government House.
“With the support of PDM members and the people of Ondo State who are currently experiencing hardship in the state, people will vote en-masse for Bamidele Akingboye.
“Once again, you are welcome to where you rightly belong, as the SDP governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye congratulated them for joining the party and assured them that he will ensure inclusive governance if elected as governor.
