The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele has called on all Awori indigenes to work in unity and preserve their heritage.
This happened while declaring open, this year’s Awori Summit held at the OPIC event centre, Isheri Olofin.
In keeping with the theme of the summit, “Projecting Awori image in nation building”, the Deputy Governor saw the need for all Awori indigenes to play an important roles in the socio-economic advancement of the land.
Engineer Salako-Oyedele identified leadership, education, economic development and networking as some of the key areas to be focused on by the Awori sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora for the ethnic group to contribute its quota in nation building.
She commended the convener of the summit, the Olofin of Isheri, Oba Sulaimon Bamgbade for coming up with the initiative which according to her is strategic towards promoting unity among them.
In a keynote address, a former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Olanrewaju Fagboun called on the Aworis to collectively address the issues that are critical to the existence, identity and development of the group.
In a welcome address, the Chairman of the planning committee, Alhaji Abdul-Semiu Yusuff expressed his delight and said that they are a strong community which must be strengthened. He also added that the bi-annual summit was a step in the right direction.
He also said the event was necessary to build a viable and strong tribe, noting that the land was a God-given abode of wealth to both indigenes and non-indigenes.
